Top Highlights

“We believe the Bible to he the word of God as far as it is translated correctly [our emphasis]; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.’” (Page 73)

“‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?’ (Jeremiah 17:9)” (Page 120)

“Jesus Christ grew to manhood, he took at least three wives, Mary, Martha and Mary Magdalene.” (Page 268)

“power and authority was taken away from earth and was not restored until Joseph Smith” (Page 48)

“ black skin. This is the Mormon explanation for the Negro race.” (Page 267)

[Ed Decker's] book is the soul of objectivity. He presents both sides of each topic—the Mormon position and the Biblical view (according to historic Christianity)—and supplies a generous amount of quotations from the sacred writings of both religions. It is an excellent resource for understanding the conflict between these faiths.

It is only once in a while that someone with real compassion for others comes forward with such a useful and excellent comparative work as this. . . Mr. Decker has a scholarly and well-informed approach to [Mormonism] and I strongly recommend. . . this masterpiece.

Not only does Decker misunderstand the fundamentals of LDS theology, he knowingly misrepresents the parts he does understand. If all you want is to remain in the echo-chamber affirming your preconceived notions that the “Mormon church is an unbiblical cult” this is the book for you. If you are a critical thinker or would like to actually make an attempt to understand Mormonism I would advise you to look elsewhere. (Webber’s “Mormon Christianity,” Blake Ostler’s “Exploring Mormon Thought” series, Teryl Givens’ “Wrestling the Angel.”)

Ed Decker the most respected authority on Mormonism? That's like saying a certain German dictator in the 1930's and 40's was the best authority on Judaism. A far, far better authority on Mormonism would be Jan Shipps.
